Kori Bustard

The Kori Bustard, classified as Ardeotis kori, is a species native to the arid grasslands and open woodlands of eastern and southern Africa. As one of the heaviest flying birds in the world, its evolutionary trajectory has favored a morphology adapted for ground-dwelling, characterized by broad wings essential for lifting its substantial body mass and a rounded tail that aids in balance while foraging. The bird has long been a subject of interest in ornithological records for its striking display behaviors and complex mating rituals.

The species was formally described by the English ornithologist William John Burchell in 1822 during his extensive travels through southern Africa.
