Lapland Longspur

The Lapland Longspur, or Calcarius lapponicus, is a hardy migratory songbird that breeds in the circumpolar arctic tundra. Its existence is defined by its extreme habitat, which stretches across the northern reaches of both Eurasia and North America. The species is characterized by its distinct physical adaptations to the tundra environment, including its sharply pointed wings and slightly notched tail, which facilitate long-distance migration between its harsh northern nesting grounds and more temperate wintering territories.
