Madagascar Pratincole

The Madagascar Pratincole, or Glareola ocularis, is a migratory bird species characterized by its highly specialized morphology, including long, pointed wings and a distinctively forked tail, which enable the efficient, sustained flight required for its annual trek between Madagascar and the African mainland. It was first formally described by the French naturalist Jean-René Constant Quoy and Joseph Paul Gaimard in the early 19th century, during a period of intense European exploration into the biodiversity of the Indian Ocean islands.
