Maroon-chested Ground Dove

The Maroon-chested Ground Dove, scientifically classified as Paraclaravis mondetoura, is a rare and elusive species native to the humid montane forests of the Neotropics. First described in the 19th century, this bird has historically been the subject of significant interest among ornithologists due to its secretive nature and preference for dense bamboo thickets, which often renders it difficult to observe in the wild. Its taxonomy has undergone various revisions, eventually finding its place as part of a specialized group of small ground-dwelling doves.
