Where it came from
The Mindanao Heleia, also known as Goodfellow's White-eye, was first described by Ernst Hartert in 1903. Named in honor of the British bird collector Walter Goodfellow, who was active in the Philippines during the early 20th century, the species is endemic to the island of Mindanao. Its discovery occurred during a period of intense ornithological exploration in the region, aimed at cataloging the unique biodiversity of the Philippine archipelago for European natural history museums.
The bird is characterized by its distinct, rounded wings and rounded tail, features that are well-adapted to its life in the dense, high-altitude mossy forests.
