Mindoro Scops-Owl

The Mindoro Scops-Owl, Otus mindorensis, is a species of owl endemic to the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. It was first formally described by the ornithologist John Whitehead in 1899, following his exploration of the island's mountain ranges. As a member of the Strigidae family, the species evolved in the isolated, high-altitude mossy forests of the region, developing physical characteristics like its distinctive rounded wings and tail that suit a life of maneuvering through dense canopy cover.

The species is categorized as vulnerable, largely due to the limited extent of its habitat and ongoing deforestation on Mindoro.
