Mombasa Woodpecker

The Mombasa woodpecker, scientifically classified as Campethera mombassica, is a species native to the coastal regions of East Africa, primarily found in Kenya and Tanzania. It occupies a niche within the scrub and woodland ecosystems of the Swahili coast, where its distinct morphological traits—including its broad wings and pointed, stiffened tail—have evolved to facilitate efficient maneuvering and bracing against the trunks of local trees as it forages for wood-boring insects.
