Moss-backed Sparrow

The Moss-backed Sparrow, scientifically classified as Arremon dorbignii, is a distinct passerine bird native to the Andean foothills of Bolivia and northwestern Argentina. It was historically considered a subspecies of the Pectoral Sparrow, but taxonomic studies have since elevated it to a full species based on its unique vocalizations and specific morphological traits. The species is characterized by its earthy, olive-green plumage on the back—from which its common name is derived—and its distinctively notched tail, which serves as a key identifying feature for ornithologists.
