Ocellated Thrasher

The Ocellated Thrasher, or Toxostoma ocellatum, is an endemic species restricted to the arid highlands of central and southern Mexico. It was formally described in the 19th century by English naturalist Philip Sclater, reflecting the era's intense scientific interest in cataloging the biodiversity of the Neotropics. The bird is evolutionarily significant as a representative of the diverse Mimidae family, uniquely adapted to the scrubland ecosystems that characterize its limited range.
