Palawan Hornbill

The Palawan hornbill, scientifically known as Anthracoceros marchei, is an avian species endemic to the Palawan group of islands in the Philippines. Evolutionary biologists categorize it as a member of the Bucerotidae family, specifically adapted to the dense, lowland tropical forests of the archipelago. Its distinctive morphology, characterized by broad wings for maneuvering through dense canopy foliage and a rounded tail that aids in steady, short-distance flight, reflects a long-term evolutionary specialization to the island's unique ecological niche.

The species was first formally described by the French naturalist Émile Oustalet in 1885, who named it in honor of the explorer Antoine-Alfred Marche.
