Perija Parakeet

The Perija parakeet, scientifically known as Pyrrhura caeruleiceps, is a species native to the humid forests of the Perijá Mountains along the border of Colombia and Venezuela. Historically classified as a subspecies of the blue-throated parakeet, taxonomic consensus shifted to recognize it as a distinct species due to its specific morphological characteristics, including its signature rounded wing shape and long, pointed tail. These birds inhabit high-altitude environments where their population remains vulnerable due to habitat fragmentation and their highly restricted geographic range.
