Pinto's Spinetail

Pinto's Spinetail, scientifically known as Synallaxis infuscata, is a rare passerine bird species endemic to the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil. It was first described by the Brazilian ornithologist Olivério Pinto in 1950. The species occupies a narrow and highly fragmented geographic range, primarily residing in the understory of humid forests, where its elusive nature and reliance on specific bamboo thickets have historically made it a subject of significant conservation interest.

The bird's physical characteristics, including its rounded wings and distinctively notched tail, are functional adaptations to its environment, allowing for agile movement through dense vegetation. While it does not have a human designer, its classification and study serve as a testament to mid-20th-century ornithological efforts to catalog the biodiversity of the Brazilian interior. The species is currently recognized as vulnerable, largely due to ongoing habitat loss within its limited distribution.
