Plumbeous Kite

The Plumbeous Kite, Ictinia plumbea, is a bird of prey native to the tropical forests and wetlands of Central and South America. Historically cataloged during the wave of 19th-century naturalistic exploration, the species was formally described by ornithologist Johann Friedrich Gmelin in 1788. It occupies a distinct ecological niche, thriving in the canopy where it hunts primarily for insects on the wing, a behavior that relies on its specialized, aerodynamic physiology.

The bird’s design is a marvel of evolutionary adaptation, characterized by long, pointed, soaring wings and a distinctively notched or forked tail.
