Rufous-tailed Shama

The Rufous-tailed Shama (Copsychus pyrropygus) is a rare passerine bird native to the dense lowland forests of the Sundaic region, specifically across the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. Historically classified within the Muscicapidae family, this species has long been documented by ornithologists for its secretive, forest-dwelling nature and its characteristic long, graduated tail and rounded wings, which distinguish it from the more common white-rumped shamas found throughout the same geographic range.

First formally described by Salomon Müller in the mid-19th century, the species serves as a significant subject for conservationists today due to its reliance on primary rainforest habitats.
