Rüppell's Griffon

Rüppell's griffon, scientifically classified as Gyps rueppelli, is a large vulture native to the Sahel region of Africa. Named after the German naturalist Eduard Rüppell, who explored the area in the 19th century, the bird is biologically distinguished by its extraordinary soaring capabilities. These vultures are adapted for high-altitude flight, possessing specialized hemoglobin that allows them to extract oxygen efficiently from the thin air of the upper atmosphere, a trait that sets them apart from most other raptors.
