Saffron Siskin

The Saffron Siskin, known scientifically as Spinus siemiradzkii, is a striking passerine bird native to the dry deciduous forests of southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. Its discovery and initial classification in the late 19th century were part of an era of intense ornithological exploration in the Neotropics, where researchers sought to document the unique biodiversity isolated by the varied topographical features of the Andes. The species is characterized by its vibrant yellow plumage and distinctive physical features, including pointed wings and a notched tail, which facilitate its agile flight patterns within its arid habitat.
