Striated Antthrush

The Striated Antthrush, Chamaeza nobilis, was first formally described by ornithologist John Gould in 1855. It is a member of the Formicariidae family, a group of ground-dwelling birds native to the humid forests of the Amazon Basin. Its discovery emerged from the nineteenth-century tradition of European naturalists cataloging the biodiversity of the South American interior, where the species' elusive, terrestrial behavior made it a prized subject for taxonomists mapping the region's avian diversity.

The bird is characterized by its rounded wing and tail shape, features that facilitate its movement through the dense undergrowth and leaf litter of the forest floor.
