Stripe-throated Yuhina

The Stripe-throated Yuhina, scientifically classified as Yuhina gularis, is a distinctive passerine bird native to the temperate forests and high-altitude shrublands of the Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia. Within the avian taxonomy of the Zosteropidae family, this species is noted for its evolutionary adaptation to montane environments, where its specific wing shape—rounded and suited for agile, short-burst flight—allows it to navigate dense forest canopies and bamboo thickets effectively.

The species was formally described by Brian Houghton Hodgson in 1836, a British diplomat and naturalist whose extensive documentation of Himalayan fauna provided the foundation for much of our modern understanding of regional bird life. The bird is recognized for its characteristic notched tail and its namesake streaked throat, features that have long been studied by ornithologists for their role in intraspecific signaling and camouflage.
