Ultramarine Lorikeet

The Ultramarine Lorikeet, or Vini ultramarina, is an endangered species of parrot endemic to the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. Evolutionary biologists note that this species represents a relic of a once-wider radiation of small lorikeets across the Pacific, now restricted to a few isolated islands. The bird is characterized by its deep blue plumage and distinctive rounded wing shape, which facilitates its nimble, fluttery flight through dense tropical canopies.

The species gained international attention in the late 20th century due to its precarious conservation status, primarily driven by the introduction of invasive black rats to its native habitat.
