Uluguru Mountain Greenbul

The Uluguru Mountain Greenbul, Arizelocichla neumanni, is an avian species endemic to the humid montane forests of the Uluguru Mountains in Tanzania. Historically classified within the genus Andropadus, the species was later reclassified under Arizelocichla. It is characterized by its rounded wing and tail morphology, physical adaptations that allow for efficient, maneuverable flight within the dense, tangled understory of its high-altitude habitat.

The species was first described by the ornithologist Ernst Hartert in 1922. The name neumanni serves as a tribute to the German ornithologist Oscar Neumann, who contributed significantly to the collection and categorization of East African avifauna during the early 20th century. Today, the bird is primarily studied by conservation biologists interested in the biodiversity of the Eastern Afromontane biodiversity hotspot, where its existence is closely tied to the health of the remaining primary forest patches.
