Vieillot's Barbet

Vieillot’s barbet (Lybius vieilloti) is a species of African bird belonging to the Lybiidae family. It was first described by the French ornithologist Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot in 1815, for whom the species is named. The bird is native to the northern regions of sub-Saharan Africa, inhabiting wooded savannas and acacia scrublands where it survives primarily on fruits and small insects.

The physical characteristics of the species, such as its distinctively rounded wings and short tail, reflect its evolutionary adaptation to short-distance, agile flight within thickets rather than long-distance migration.
