White-collared Yuhina

The white-collared yuhina, scientifically classified as Parayuhina diademata, is a passerine bird native to the temperate forests of the Himalayas, southern China, and parts of Southeast Asia. This species occupies a unique evolutionary niche, historically associated with the babbler family before refined phylogenetic studies led to its current classification within the Leiothrichidae. It is characterized by its distinctive white nuchal collar and a prominent crest, features that have long made it a subject of interest for 19th and early 20th-century naturalists cataloging the biodiversity of the Sino-Himalayan region.

The bird's physical morphology, specifically its rounded wings and notched tail, reflects its adaptation to life in dense mountain undergrowth and bamboo thickets.
