White-eyed Slaty-Flycatcher

The White-eyed Slaty-Flycatcher, Melaenornis fischeri, is a passerine bird native to the highlands of East Africa. It was first described by the German explorer and naturalist Gustav Fischer in the late 19th century, during a period of intense European biological surveying of the African interior. The species is part of the Muscicapidae family and is characterized by its distinctive white iris, which provides a striking contrast against its slate-grey plumage.

The species is distinguished by its rounded wing shape and a characteristic notched tail, physical traits that have evolved to facilitate its specific hunting style. It is primarily an insectivore, often observed perched on prominent branches from which it makes short, agile sallies to capture prey mid-air.
