White-naped Xenopsaris

The White-naped Xenopsaris, known taxonomically as Xenopsaris albinucha, was formally described by Dutch ornithologist Hermann Schlegel in 1861. As a member of the Tityridae family, this species occupies a unique position within neotropical avian taxonomy, often shifting between classifications before being firmly placed among the tityras and becards. It is native to the lowlands of South America, primarily inhabiting gallery forests, marshes, and scrubland areas across a range that stretches from Venezuela and Colombia down through parts of Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina.

The design of the species is characterized by its distinct, subtle morphology, particularly its broad wings and characteristically notched tail. These physical adaptations serve the bird's specific ecological niche as a sallying insectivore.
