White-tailed Tropicbird

The White-tailed Tropicbird, Phaethon lepturus, is the smallest of the three tropicbird species and is widely distributed across tropical regions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. It evolved to occupy a niche as a pelagic seabird, primarily inhabiting remote oceanic islands and atolls where it nests in crevices or on cliff faces. The species is characterized by its stark white plumage, contrasting black eye stripes, and its highly specialized flight profile, marked by long, pointed wings and extremely elongated central tail feathers.
