Zino's Petrel

Zino's Petrel, or Pterodroma madeira, is a gadfly petrel endemic to the island of Madeira. It was first identified as a distinct species due to its specific breeding habits and isolated mountain nesting sites, though its population remains critically small and vulnerable to predation. The species is named after the Zino family, who were instrumental in the study and conservation efforts dedicated to protecting these birds from extinction on the island's high-altitude cliffs.
