Zone-tailed Hawk

The Zone-tailed Hawk, Buteo albonotatus, is a bird of prey native to the Americas, ranging from the southwestern United States down through Central and South America. Evolutionary biology identifies this species as a member of the Buteo genus, characterized by its distinctive broad, rounded wings and a flight silhouette that often mimics the common Turkey Vulture.
