Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small was released in 2012 as a two-player standalone adaptation of Uwe Rosenberg's acclaimed farming simulation game, Agricola. Designed by Rosenberg himself, the game was developed to capture the core resource management and worker placement mechanics of its predecessor while streamlining the gameplay for a tighter, more intimate experience. By stripping away the crop management and family growth mechanics of the original, Rosenberg focused the design specifically on animal husbandry, challenging players to optimize their farmyards within a more limited spatial and temporal framework.

The game was illustrated by Klemens Franz, whose distinctive aesthetic helped define the look of many of Lookout Games' and 999 Games' titles during this period. The artwork maintains the rustic, functional charm associated with the franchise, utilizing a clean visual language to represent various livestock and farmyard improvements. Upon its release, the title was well-received by the board gaming community for successfully condensing the tension of the original Agricola into a fast-paced format, eventually spawning a Big Box edition that incorporated the game's various expansions.
