Alberto García-Alix

This monograph was published in 2008 by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía to accompany the major retrospective exhibition of the same name. It serves as an authoritative survey of the work of Alberto García-Alix, a central figure in the 'Movida Madrileña' cultural movement that emerged in Spain following the transition to democracy. The book documents his evolution from a chronicler of his local countercultural social circle to one of the most significant portrait photographers in contemporary Spanish art.

The volume was curated and edited by Nicolás Combarro, who worked closely with the artist to select images that encapsulate García-Alix's distinct aesthetic. Characterized by stark black-and-white high-contrast imagery, the collection explores themes of rebellion, marginality, and raw intimacy. The publication was well-received by critics for its comprehensive scope and its contribution to formalizing García-Alix's legacy within the canon of European documentary and portrait photography.
