Where it came from
Published in 2006 by Grafo, this scholarly volume examines the artistic legacy of Andrea Celesti, an influential late Baroque painter active in Venice and Lombardy. The book focuses specifically on his work in Toscolano, a region on the western shore of Lake Garda where the artist executed significant commissions for local churches, most notably the monumental canvases for the parish church of Saints Peter and Paul.
This monograph serves as both a historical record and a critical analysis of Celesti's vibrant, theatrical style. By documenting his period of residency in Toscolano, the text provides context for his shift toward a more dramatic and colorful palette, reflecting the evolution of Venetian painting at the turn of the 18th century. It is regarded by art historians as an essential reference for understanding the artist's regional impact and his role in the religious artistic traditions of the Garda area.
