Where it came from
Bin, le petit âne was published in 1976 by L'École des loisirs, a French publishing house renowned for its dedication to children's literature. The book was authored by Albert Lamorisse, who is widely recognized as a visionary filmmaker and writer, best known for his Academy Award-winning film Le Ballon rouge. This story reflects his hallmark ability to capture the innocence and imaginative landscape of childhood, translating the cinematic sensitivity he brought to the screen into the intimate, quiet medium of the picture book.
The narrative follows a gentle, lyrical approach to storytelling, characteristic of the era's French pedagogical style which sought to balance simple prose with emotive, evocative illustrations. By the time of this publication, Lamorisse had already established a profound legacy in creative arts; Bin, le petit âne served as a testament to his continued interest in themes of companionship and discovery. It was received as a charming addition to the publisher's catalogue, valued for its understated elegance and its contribution to the tradition of European illustrated books for early readers.
