Fr-Ballon Rouge/Red Balloon

The Red Balloon originated from Albert Lamorisse’s 1956 short film of the same name, a masterpiece of French cinema that captured the whimsical, often lonely experience of childhood in post-war Paris. Following the film's success, which included winning the Palme d'Or for short film at Cannes, Lamorisse adapted the story into a photo-book format. By capturing still frames from the film and pairing them with evocative narrative text, the book allows readers to linger on the visual poetry of the red balloon drifting through the gray, melancholic streets of Ménilmontant.

The design of the book is defined by its stark contrast, using the vibrant, singular splash of color of the balloon against the muted tones of the neighborhood.
