Comentario y explanación de los Ejercicios espirituales de San Ignacio de Loyola

Published in 1945 by Editorial Balmes in Barcelona, this commentary serves as a scholarly engagement with the foundational text of Jesuit spirituality, the 'Spiritual Exercises' of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The work emerged from the intellectual climate of mid-twentieth-century Spanish Catholicism, a period deeply invested in restoring and interpreting classical ascetic texts to provide structural guidance for both clergy and lay practitioners.

Ignacio Casanovas, a Jesuit scholar associated with the publishing house, authored this analysis to clarify the theological nuances and practical applications of the Exercises. His approach reflects the rigor of the period's religious scholarship, aiming to provide a pedagogical framework for readers to navigate the meditative stages established by Ignatius. Upon its release, the volume functioned as a standard resource for spiritual directors seeking to maintain traditional orthodoxy in their instruction.
