Comentario y Explanación de los Ejercicios Espirituales de San Ignacio de Loyola

This work serves as a modern edition of the extensive commentary by Ignacio Casanovas, a Spanish Jesuit scholar whose rigorous analysis of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola emerged from the early twentieth-century tradition of Ignatian studies. Casanovas sought to provide a comprehensive, methodical guide for retreat directors and participants, grounding the mystical and meditative steps of the Exercises in clear theological and practical frameworks that reflect the historical development of Jesuit spirituality.

The 2011 publication by IVE Press, which specializes in theological and spiritual texts, preserves the integrity of the original Spanish commentary for contemporary English-speaking audiences. The design and presentation aim to maintain a scholarly tone, prioritizing readability and accessibility for those engaged in the rigorous discipline of the Exercises. It is received primarily as a resource for spiritual formation, valued by those who seek a traditional and intellectual approach to Ignatian discernment.
