Where it came from
Published in 2017 by Seven Stories Press under the Albatros imprint, this comprehensive collection gathers nearly a century of Kurt Vonnegut's short fiction. It was compiled as a definitive retrospective to preserve the prolific body of work he produced for popular magazines and literary journals throughout his career, often serving as the experimental testing ground for the satirical themes and humanist philosophies that would later define his iconic novels.
The design of this volume reflects the minimalist and stark aesthetic often associated with mid-century literary collections, intentionally focusing on the gravity of Vonnegut's prose. By consolidating stories that were previously scattered across various archives, the edition aims to provide scholars and readers alike with a clear view of his stylistic evolution, from his early post-war pieces to his final reflections on the human condition.
