Complete Novels of Mark Twain. Volume Two (American Claimant / Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court / Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc / Puddn'head Wilson / Those Extraordinary Twins / Tom Sawyer Abroad / Tom Sawyer, Detective)

This 1964 edition was published by Doubleday as part of a multi-volume set intended to provide a comprehensive and accessible collection of Mark Twain’s literary works for the home library. Released during a period of renewed academic and public interest in Twain’s diverse bibliography, the edition focused on presenting his later novels and short fiction in a unified, durable format suitable for a broad readership.

The design of this volume adheres to the mid-century aesthetic of the publisher's classic literature series, prioritizing readability through a clean, traditional layout and a sturdy binding. By grouping these specific texts—ranging from the satirical science fiction of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court to the complex social commentary of Puddn'head Wilson—the publishers aimed to highlight the evolution of Twain’s voice, moving from regional humor to more somber, psychological explorations of American life.
