Conversaciones con Jorge Luis Borges

Conversaciones con Jorge Luis Borges originated from a series of interviews conducted in 1968 by Richard Burgin, then a young American academic and writer. Burgin sought out the Argentine master in Cambridge, Massachusetts, while Borges was a visiting professor at Harvard University. These candid exchanges were initially published in English in 1969, capturing a period when Borges’s international fame was rapidly expanding, allowing him to reflect on his literary influences, philosophy, and the nature of his own blindness.

The 1974 Taurus edition serves as a significant Spanish-language iteration of these dialogues. The design reflects the mid-1970s aesthetic of the Taurus publishing house, which focused on intellectual clarity and scholarly presentation. The text was well-received by critics and readers alike for its intimate quality, providing a rare look at Borges’s conversational wit and his ability to dismantle his own mythology with characteristic humility and playful irony.
