Conversations with Jorge Luis Borges

Conversations with Jorge Luis Borges originated from a series of interviews conducted by Richard Burgin in 1968, shortly after he met the Argentine master while teaching at the University of Alabama. Burgin, then a young academic and writer, sought to capture the nuance of Borges's literary philosophy, political views, and personal anecdotes at a time when the author was increasingly recognized as a towering figure of world literature.

The resulting text provides a direct, unadorned window into the mind of a writer whose work was defined by intricate labyrinths and metaphysical speculation. Upon its initial publication, the book was received as a vital primary source for scholars and enthusiasts alike, valued for its ability to preserve the conversational cadence of a man who rarely granted such lengthy access to his intellectual process.
