Conversations with Randy Newman

Conversations with Randy Newman was published in 2009 by Hachette Books, capturing a series of extensive interviews conducted by music journalist and songwriter Paul Zollo. The book emerged as part of an effort to document the creative process of one of American music's most distinct voices, framing Newman’s career through his own reflections on songwriting, film scoring, and his unique place in the landscape of popular music.

Paul Zollo, known for his work documenting the craft of songwriting, approached the text with the goal of providing an intimate, chronological narrative of Newman’s development. The design focuses on a conversational, oral history format that allows Newman’s characteristic wit and cynical observations to take center stage, offering readers a candid look at the challenges and inspirations behind his iconic catalog of character-driven songs.
