˜Dasœ Ludwig-Richter-Album

Das Ludwig-Richter-Album serves as a foundational compilation of the work of Adrian Ludwig Richter, a central figure in German Romanticism and Biedermeier illustration. Published by Henschelverlag, this volume was designed to preserve and celebrate Richter’s distinct wood engravings and drawings, which often depicted idyllic rural life, folklore, and the German landscape. The collection reflects the nineteenth-century movement to elevate the domestic interior through art that emphasized moral clarity, family piety, and a nostalgic connection to nature.

The aesthetic of the album is rooted in the meticulous detail and gentle sentimentality that defined Richter’s professional career. By curating his extensive body of graphic work into a single bound volume, the publishers aimed to cement his reputation as a master of the German soul and a primary influence on the development of national illustration. The work was highly regarded in its time for its technical precision and its ability to evoke a sense of national identity, remaining a staple in collections of European graphic history.
