David and Goliath (Bible Stories)

Published in 1999 by Franklin Watts as part of their Bible Stories series, this volume was designed to provide an accessible introduction to foundational religious narratives for younger readers. The series emerged during a period when publishers were increasingly focusing on simplified, illustrated retellings to bridge the gap between complex theological texts and early literacy development, ensuring these core cultural narratives remained available to new generations.

The book utilizes a clear, instructional tone paired with traditional illustrative styles intended to evoke a sense of timelessness appropriate for its subject matter. Mary Auld was a frequent contributor to educational series during this era, focusing on structured storytelling that emphasizes moral clarity and historical simplification. Upon release, the series was primarily marketed toward school and public libraries as a reliable, standard-issue resource for children's literature collections.
