Della pittura e della statua di Leonbatista Alberti

Leon Battista Alberti originally authored Della pittura and Della statua during the mid-fifteenth century, marking them as foundational texts of Renaissance art theory. The former, written in 1435, provided the first scientific treatise on linear perspective and the mathematical composition of paintings, while the latter focused on the human form and proportion. These works were essential to the development of Humanist artistic practice, bridging the gap between medieval craft and the intellectual rigor of the Italian Renaissance.

The 1804 publication context reflects the enduring interest in Enlightenment and Neoclassical scholarship, which frequently revisited primary Renaissance sources to formalize aesthetic and architectural standards. As a modern print-on-demand reproduction of this historical edition, the current volume serves as a bridge for students and historians to access Alberti’s original observations on geometry and nature. The text remains widely regarded for its systematic approach, which fundamentally altered how artists translated three-dimensional reality onto two-dimensional surfaces.
