Die Aufführung der Johannes-Passion von J.S. Bach und deren Probleme

Walther Reinhart, a distinguished Swiss conductor and music scholar, authored this study in 1956 to address the interpretative and performance challenges inherent in Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion. Published by the long-standing Swiss music house Hug, the text reflects Reinhart's extensive career in the choral tradition, particularly his work in Winterthur, where he championed the revival of Bach's large-scale vocal compositions.

The book serves as a technical and philosophical guide for conductors navigating the complexities of the work, ranging from the dramatic structure of the libretto to the orchestral requirements of the period. Designed during a time when mid-twentieth-century musicology was increasingly focused on period-appropriate performance practices, Reinhart's work was intended to bridge the gap between historical reverence and the practical demands of the modern concert hall, offering a specialized resource for students and practitioners of the sacred choral repertoire.
