Documenti relativi ad alcune asserzioni del principe di Metternich intorno al re Carlo Felice ed a Carlo Alberto, principe di Carignano

Published in Turin in 1882 by the esteemed house F.lli Bocca, this work by the historian Nicomede Bianchi serves as a critical examination of the political machinations surrounding the House of Savoy. Bianchi, who was appointed by the Italian government to organize the state archives, utilized his unique access to official documentation to challenge the narrative constructed by Prince Metternich. The text specifically addresses historical assertions made by the Austrian statesman regarding King Charles Felix and Charles Albert, Prince of Carignano, contextualizing the complex transition of power in Piedmont during the early nineteenth century.

The book is a product of the late Risorgimento scholarship, a period defined by an intense desire to clarify and document the national narrative through primary source evidence. Bianchi’s writing reflects a methodical, archival-driven approach intended to defend the reputation of the Savoyard monarchs against foreign characterizations. While primarily addressed to the intellectual and political circles of post-unification Italy, the volume is recognized today for its historiographical rigor and its role in shedding light on the diplomatic tensions between the Austrian Empire and the Sardinian state.
