Dog Spelled Backwards

Dog Spelled Backwards was published by St. Martin's Press in 2007 as a reflective memoir by Mordecai Siegal, a long-time authority on pet care and animal behavior. The book draws upon Siegal's decades of experience as a dog columnist and trainer, serving as a philosophical exploration of the human-canine bond rather than a traditional instructional manual. It was written during a period of rising interest in the emotional and psychological complexities of pets, positioning the work as a bridge between practical animal husbandry and personal narrative.

The design and content of the book reflect Siegal’s reputation for blending veterinary-adjacent knowledge with accessible, anecdotal storytelling. By framing the canine experience through the lens of human companionship, the author intended to foster a deeper empathy in his readers. The book received moderate attention within the niche of pet-centric non-fiction, appreciated primarily by dog owners looking for a contemplative look at their relationships with their animals rather than strictly clinical advice.
