Domestic Architecture and Power: The Historical Archaeology of Colonial Ecuador was published in 2006 as part of the Contributions to Global Historical Archaeology series by Springer. The work emerged from Jamieson’s deep archaeological research into the domestic sphere of colonial Cuenca, Ecuador, focusing on how everyday living spaces and material culture were used to negotiate social identities during the transition from the colonial to the republican era.

Ross W. Jamieson, a professor of archaeology, designed the study to move beyond formalist architectural histories by analyzing the household as a site of political and social action. The book provides a detailed look at how the physical arrangement of rooms and the consumption of goods served as markers of class, ethnicity, and gender, receiving recognition within academic circles for its rigorous integration of documentary records with systematic archaeological excavation.
