Dorner on the future state

Published in 1883 by Charles Scribner's Sons, this work by Isaac August Dorner represents a significant contribution to 19th-century Protestant dogmatics. Dorner, a prominent German theologian, crafted this text as an exploration of eschatology and the teleological nature of the Christian faith. It emerged during a period when European theology was deeply engaged in reconciling traditional doctrine with the intellectual challenges posed by emerging historical and scientific inquiry.

The design and dissemination of this volume reflect the intellectual rigor of Scribner's theological catalog during the late Victorian era. While Dorner's broader theological system—often characterized by his focus on Christology and the development of doctrine—was influential among scholarly circles in both Europe and America, this specific treatise on the future state served as a dense, academic contribution to the broader conversation regarding post-mortem existence and divine purpose. It was received primarily by seminary students and clergy, serving as a pillar of systematic theology study for that generation.
