Drags Photographs by Gregory Kramer

Drags Photographs was released in 2017 by the Antique Collectors' Club, serving as a comprehensive visual chronicle of the drag community. Gregory Kramer, an established photographer known for his intimate portraiture, sought to capture the transformative power, artistry, and vulnerability inherent in the drag performance scene. The project reflects the shift of drag from nightlife subculture into a prominent fixture of mainstream cultural consciousness, emphasizing the meticulous craftsmanship of costume, makeup, and character development.

The book functions as a curated collection of Kramer’s work, which has been featured in various publications documenting the intersection of gender performance and high-fashion aesthetics. By focusing on the faces behind the personas, the design of the volume prioritizes the expressive power of the sitters, moving away from theatrical stage shots to provide a more nuanced, documentary perspective. It was well-received by those interested in the sociology of contemporary queer performance art and the evolution of gender expression in the 21st century.
