El cristo de los Ejercicios de San Ignacio

El Cristo de los Ejercicios de San Ignacio was published in 1990 by Sal Terrae as part of an ongoing effort to make the theology of Jon Sobrino, a prominent figure in liberation theology, more accessible to a Spanish-speaking audience. The book emerged from the context of Latin American liberation theology, which sought to bridge the gap between traditional Ignatian spirituality and the harsh realities of social injustice and poverty prevalent in the region during the late 20th century.

In this work, Sobrino re-examines the traditional Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola through a Christocentric lens. The design and structure of the text were intended to guide the reader toward a 'following of Jesus' that is both deeply mystical and actively transformative. The book was received as a significant contribution to contemporary Jesuit thought, though it simultaneously drew attention from ecclesiastical authorities due to the author's controversial approach to the relationship between faith and political praxis.
