Where it came from
Published in 1991 by Alianza Editorial as part of their scholarly Alianza Universidad series, Carlos Alvar's 'El Rey Arturo y su mundo' serves as a rigorous exploration of Arthurian legend within the context of medieval literature. Alvar, a distinguished philologist and expert in medieval Spanish and European literature, intended for this work to bridge the gap between academic research and the informed general reader, mapping the evolution of the Matter of Britain through historical and literary lenses.
The book is characterized by the austere, minimalist cover design typical of the Alianza Universidad series during the 1990s, which emphasized the academic weight of the text over ornamental marketing. Upon its release, it was well-received by the Spanish-speaking academic community as a definitive, accessible reference, effectively contextualizing the Arthurian cycle's cultural significance and its transmission across different European languages and traditions.
